Your job You will facilitate workshops
given at the school for parents on various topics related to life skills
and parenthood. There are also group workshops for children in order to
enhance their personal development, self-confidence and academic progress.
In addition, you may give therapy to families or children when necessary.
We already have local volunteers and are always interested in expanding
the team with foreign professionals who have Spanish speaking
skills.
Typical day On
weekdays, you begin at 9:00 am. Morning activities include giving
attention to the mothers and kids who came to study, as well as planning
the afternoon workshops for both of them. Lunch time is from 1:00 to 2:30
pm. In the afternoon, the office is busier: kids and mothers come for
individual consultations that can last up to an hour and a half. You are
also responsible of the workshops and group discussions. Your day ends at
5:30 pm.
On Saturdays, you facilitate group discussions related to
family issues and to problem areas encountered in the evaluations you
conducted during the week. There are three ways for a kid or a family to
obtain a consultation with you: the first is through the appointment given
to each family for a general evaluation of its structure and dynamics; the
second is through appointments based on our social workers' reports of a
problem related to behaviour or academic progress; the third is through
the mothers themselves who sometimes request a consultation to talk about
a personal difficulty or problem that affect their kids.
