a football pools competition
Laura Hope made contact with SKIP in December, interested in volunteering, but also in raising money to help disadvantaged Peruvian children. She organised a football pools competition for her colleagues at Barclays Bank, in Cheshire (UK). Laura was able to raise £300 for SKIP, which were matched with £300 more since Barclays Bank runs a pound for pound scheme for charity events. The money was used to buy school uniforms for our children, who would be unable to study without the support of people like Laura and companies like Barclays.

a book sale
Chris Gale, a friend of the trustees, set up a book sale where he works. His colleagues kindly donated read books, which were then set out on display so that employees could browse and make purcahses during their lunch hour. According to Chris, some people have been very generous with the number and the quality of books they've donated. The idea turned out to be a success: in his first week only, Chris raised £120 for SKIP from the honesty box.

a marathon
Paul O'Brien is on his way to run a second Berlin marathon for SKIP! Having successfully raised £3000 at the 2004 event – in spite of a foot injury and a cold rain – he is ready to repeat the experience on September 24 so that more Peruvian kids can enjoy their right to an education rather than working to help feed their family. The Berlin marathon is one of the biggests in Europe, attracting about 30,000 runners. Paul's double objective this year is to raise £2000 and finish within 4 h 30 min. This major boost to SKIP's finances and visibility cannot be overstated as it will make a huge difference to the lives of many poor children in Peru.
